The AUC is initiating this consultation to standardize the distribution system connection process in Alberta. This was a stated action item in the Commission’s response to the Distribution System Inquiry report and an objective in the Commission’s 2021-2024 strategic plan.

The intended outcome of the consultation is to provide a more orderly, timely and cost-effective connection process for customers and distributed energy resources.

The initial matter to be addressed is connection costs. The Commission heard in the Distribution System Inquiry and in other forums that connection costs are regarded as a barrier to the integration of more distributed energy resources and customer load onto the electric grid.

The AUC invites interested parties to participate in these discussions and provide input regarding the alternatives outlined in Bulletin 2021-09.
